Awards keep pouring in for Le Quartier Français and head chef Margot Janse.

The welcome is genial, the décor refreshing and the menus seductive.

Exciting new changes have seen the restaurant divided into two entities: iCi’s menu is served both indoors and outdoors at lunch and dinner, and proffers ‘tastes’ (tempura asparagus & fennel, sweet soya dip); lighter fare (lamb burger decked with marinated tomatoes, pickled cucumber and avo) and soul food from the wood burning oven (wood roasted free-range chicken, roast potatoes and salad for two).

Dinners in The Tasting Room are an elaborate affair with a choice of set menus.

Guests can select a minimum of 4-6 courses from the likes of fried tomato gnocchi, dill puree, black radish, pickled cherries; beech wood-smoked tuna, baby caponata, grapefruit glaze; and goat’s milk cheese cake, rhubarb and honeycomb.

The other is an 8 course menu gourmand (with the option of wine pairing), which tempts you with warm porchetta of quail and bacon, spring onion salad and Jerusalem artichoke puree; pan roasted salmon trout, truffled sweetcorn, porcini and broad bean ragout, and other delectable dishes.

Margot Janse

Margot Janse has held the position of executive chef at Le Quartier Francais since 1995.

She is remarkably modest for someone who has won many accolades at home and abroad over the years for her creative contribution to contemporary South African cuisine.

The top chef in Top 100 Restaurants 2004 and winner of Chef of The Year in Eat Out 2003 takes it all in her stride. She comments, ""I don't cook to be recognized. I cook to cook. It is great recognition for my whole team.""
